The chemical peel is one of the oldest cosmetic procedures in the world. Today chemical peels are among the most popular and widely recognised methods of improving the health and appearance of skin by removing dead skin cells and encouraging new ones to grow. Chemical peel depth can range from very superficial to deep, although several light depth peels can often achieve similar results to one deeper peel treatment, with less risk and shorter recovery time.
ClinicCare superficial peels contain a mixture of Glycolic, Lactic and Salicylic Acids to remove the upper layer of the epidermis encouraging regeneration and rejuvenation of new skin cells. The ClinicCare peels come in 3 targeted ranges for specific skin indications and are extremely well tolerated with minimum side effects.
Course of 4-6 treatments is advised for best results, ranging from 1-4 week intervals dependant on skin type & concern. To maintain results, one treatment is recommended every 6-8 weeks or if necessary a course of 4-6 treatments every 4-6 months.
All peels are suitable for Fitzpatrick skin types 1 to 4 (patch test required for 5 and above).
GLOW AHA PEEL - Targets hyperpigmentation, age spots and dull tired skin.
Glycolic Acid 28% Derived from sugar cane, it exfoliates the epidermis, promotes epidermolysis and stimulates the growth of new skin.
Kojic Acid 4% Derived from a variety of fungi and organic substances, it is used to diminish dark areas resulting from excessive pigmentation in the skin.
Arbutin 2% Acts by reversibly suppressing melanosomal tyrosinase activity.
PURE BHA PEEL - Targets troubled and/or sensitive skins and acne-like conditions.
Salicylic Acid 20% Derived from willow tree bark, this has keratolytic, comedolytic, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.
Lactic Acid 12% Has water binding properties and stimulates collagen synthesis.
Glycolic Acid 12% Exfoliates the epidermis, promotes epidermolysis, disperses basal layer melanin & stimulates the growth of new skin. Glycolic acid also reduces the amount of surface skin oil.
REFRESH AHA PEEL - Targets fine lines, wrinkles and skin rejuvenation.
Glycolic Acid 48% Derived from sugar cane, it exfoliates the epidermis, promotes epidermolysis and stimulates the growth of new skin.
Phytic Acid 4% Protects against inflammation by blocking free radicals and increasing antioxidant functionality.
Kojic Acid 2% Derived from a variety of fungi and organic substances, it is used to diminish dark areas resulting from excessive pigmentation in the skin.
Pre Treatment Advice (up to 7 days prior)
What a chemical peel feels like
During a chemical peel, most people feel a slight burning sensation that can last about five to ten minutes, followed by a slight stinging sensation.
Risks & Reactions
Reactions from the treatment can include: skin redness, flushing, peeling, dryness, irritation, tightness and tenderness. These effects will usually subside within a couple of hours and many people are able to return to their normal activities the same day. However some people may react differently and increased reactions will typically resolve within 7 days as the skin returns to normal. You may experience a breakout up to one week post treatment as your cell turnover is increasing, exposing underlying bacteria beneath the surface.
If guidance is not followed, there is a small risk of blistering which will crust and heal. There is a small risk that hyper/hypopigmentation of the skin can occur after the procedure (dermal melasma & Fitzpatrick skin types 5+), although this is highly unlikely due to the superficial type of peel used.
